Virgin Mary statue unearthed at Hopkinton facility

HOPKINTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Construction crews working a new addition to the Golden Pond Assisted Living facility in Hopkinton unearthed a nearly 4-foot statue of the Virgin Mary.

Bill Marr, the director of the facility, told The MetroWest Daily News, "Everybody thinks it's a message, that it's going to be good luck for us."

Marr told the newspaper that he believes the statue, which is in great condition, was purposefully buried decades ago.

Once the statue is restored and renovation work to the building is complete, Marr hopes to permanently move the figure to Golden Pond's chapel.

Marr plans to reach out to the Hopkinton Historical Society to see if it can provide any insight into the statue.
