Virgin Mary statue painted black at Norwood home

NORWOOD, Mass. — Police are investigating after a religious statue was vandalized in Norwood.

FOX25 has learned that the statue was in front of a home on Walnut Avenue.

Family members said the statue was spray painted overnight.

"I think it's really warped that somebody would come over here and do this in private land,” Dino Bartucca said. "My parents had this statue for a long, long time. It was given to them as a gift."

Bartucca's parents recently passed away. Neighbors said the statue meant a lot to the family. especially Bartucca's mother.

"She loved angels and angel statues. She had a beautiful collection and she would pass them out to different people and i do the same now with all the ones she gave me,” Barbara Chism said.

This is the second religious statue vandalism in Norwood in the past few months.

Just before Easter, a Virgin Mary statue at St. Catherine's Parish was also painted black.
