Viral: Interview with man who found kidnapped Cleveland women

( -- A neighbor who heard screams coming from a Cleveland home, where three girls had been holed up for nearly a decade, thought he was responding to a domestic violence situation when he rushed to their aid Monday.

Charles Ramsey's interview with WEWS-TV has gone viral after he colorfully described the rescue of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. All three girls vanished separately about 10 years ago and were found inside a dilapidated Seymour Avenue home belonging to former school bus driver Ariel Castro.

"I heard screaming," Ramsey said. "I'm eating my McDonald's. I come outside. I see this girl going nuts trying to get out of a house."

Ramsey said she was trying desperately to get outside, but the door was not large enough for her to get out. When he was finally to free Berry, she came rushing out of the house and said, "Call 911. I'm Amanda Berry."

Berry indicated that there were other girls inside the house as well.

Ramsey was familiar with Berry's story and assumed, like many others, that the girl was dead.

In the entire year Ramsey lived in the neighborhood, he never once saw the girls or had any indication that they were inside the home. He also commented on Castro saying he never once thought the man was holding girls against their will.

"I barbecued with this dude. We eat ribs and what not and listened to salsa music. You see where I'm coming from?" Ramsey said.

Ramsey said Castro would come out of his house and play with his dogs or his motorcycles, but he never gave him a second glance because he wasn't doing anything besides "average stuff."

Approximately five minutes after police arrived, Ramsey said he saw DeJesus come out of the house along with a little girl.

Police said Knight disappeared in 2002 at age 20 and is 32 now. Berry, now 27, disappeared at age 16 on April 21, 2003, when she called her sister to say she was getting a ride home from her job at a Burger King. About a year later, DeJesus vanished at age 14 on her way home from school.

In addition to Castrol, two other men were arrested: Pedro Castro, 54 and Onil Castro, 50. All three men are brothers and lived at the home.
