Video shows man jump into frozen pond to rescue dog

SAINT ALBERT, Canada — A man jumped into a freezing pond to save his dog who fell through the ice, and it was all caught on camera.

A news crew happened to be nearby when Duncan McIver a man saw his dog plunge through the ice at the dog park pond in Canada. He followed without hesitation.

The ice broke under his weight and his dog struggled to keep his head above the freezing water. They are able to make it to a strip of concrete, but still had the issue of being away from shore.

At that point, a witness called 911.

The video shows McIver testing how sturdy the ice is, but within seconds plummets through. Trudging through shallow and chilly water, they made it back to safety.

"I think he is ok. I'll take him home," said McIver once back on shore.

The news crew was working on a story about the dangers of thin ice when they saw it unfold for real.

Fortunately, both McIver and his dog are expected to be fine.
