Video shows man hit with own car as he chases woman who stole it

WORCESTER, Mass. - A brazen thief stole a delivery driver’s SUV, then hit him with his own vehicle and fled the area, police say.

Brad Pelletir wasn’t hurt when a woman stole his car and hit him with it on Lincoln Street in Worcester Tuesday afternoon, but he is frustrated.

It’s his SUV and one he needs for pizza deliveries.

“My first reaction was I didn't think it was actually happening,” Pelletir said.

Surveillance video obtained by Boston 25 News shows the woman who brad Pelletir says stole his SUV while he was delivering pizzas on Tuesday.

She goes into a store and comes out moments later.

RAW SURVEILLANCE VIDEO

“I ran out to the street and saw it driving down pulling into the Honey Farms, so you started running down the street after it,” said Pelletir.

You can see him sprinting down Lincoln Street, coming around the back of the SUV and as it’s backing up, he gets to the door.

“I yelled stop, obviously, I don’t even know if she heard me,” he explained. “The car kind of hit me in the stomach and pushed me off to the side as she took off down the street.

His car was gone, along with valuables.

“My wallet was in it, my phone was in it,” Pelletir said.

In hindsight, he knows this could have been far worse.

“After watching the video, I said I probably shouldn't have done that but at the time you're not thinking like that,” he said.

As for his job delivering pizzas, he’s never had a problem leaving a running car before.

“I have been delivering for 13 years now, I leave my car running in front of a house if I know it’s in my plain view, I have never really had a problem; always felt safe doing it,” Pelletir explained.

But he won’t be taking chances again.

Pelletir’s car was found in Springfield and he says he will be picking it up tonight.

Police are investigating.
