Video indicates missing Harvard man ended up in Boston Harbor

BOSTON — A birthday celebration turned into a mystery. Police are now focusing their search for 22-year-old Zachary Marr in the water near the old Spaulding Rehab Center.

Police tell FOX25 that since Marr's disappearance, they have been going through quite a bit of surveillance video, all indicating the young man came to the area and ended up in the water.

On Tuesday, divers were in the water most of the day searching in very difficult conditions.

“It's a tragedy, but I think the videos we've seen follow his progress and every indication to us he went into the water,” said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.

Police told FOX25 they do not suspect foul play. They found several security images of Marr on cameras near the Bell in Hand Tavern and near the location where they are searching.

Marr was celebrating his birthday at the bar with cousins when police say he stepped out to have a cigarette, but never returned. The Bell in Hand is on Union Street across from City Hall. Police believe he may have started walking towards North Station to catch a train. Tuesday, Police indicated that he ended up in the water near the locks by the Zakim Bridge.

"He's from Harvard so I don't know if he's really familiar with the area. Someone says he may have gone down there to catch the commuter rail. I think where we think he went into the water the commuter rail is within sight there," Evans said.

Marr’s family has been working closely with police. They told investigators that he recently lost his grandmother, who he was very close to and was upset about it.

It is unclear how much Marr had to drink before leaving the bar.
