1 killed, 1 injured after being hit by car in Waltham

WALTHAM, Mass. — One person was killed Tuesday morning after he was hit by a car in Waltham.

Speed, darkness and the weather are all factors investigators are considering after the fatal accident Tuesday morning.

It happened on Wyman Street during the busy morning commute and involved two men attempting to cross the street.

"Both parties had just gotten off the bus and were attempting to cross the street when they were struck," Walham Police Sgt. William Gallant said.

One of the men, a 65-year-old from Watertown, didn't survive the impact. The other, a 70-year-old from Boston was seriously injured.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.

"Having spoken to the driver of that vehicle, it does not appear he was impaired in any way," Sgt. Gallant said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, neither the police, nor the Middlesex County District Attorney's office had released the names of the men struck in the crosswalk.

James Hache told FOX25 he knew one of them.

It's a sad thing that happened, but it doesn't surprise me with this street the way it is," Hache said. "Everybody flies up and down this road -- 50, 60 miles an hour -- They don't care. You know, if you try to walk across the street, they don't care. They just keep going."
