Van crashes at MBTA station following police chase

HOLBROOK, Mass. — A wild end to a police chase in Holbrook.

Just after 11:30 Saturday morning, Holbrook police tried to pull over 28-year-old William Ayers for driving with a suspended license.

Ayers refused to stop and led police on a chase through Holbrook, Randolph and back into Holbrook. During the chase, the Holbrook officer’s cruiser was struck three times.

Police say when Ayers tried to re-enter Randolph on Route 139 by the Holbrook/Randolph train station, he saw police cruisers blocking the road. Ayers then tried to drive down the railroad tracks toward Braintree, but was blocked by a train at the station. He then tried to drive off the tracks, but was blocked by the pedestrian barricades.

That’s when Ayers got out of the car and ran. Police chased him briefly before he was stopped and tasered when police say he refused to comply. Police say he was not injured.

One Holbrook officer sustained a minor injury and is going to be OK.

Police searched Ayers’ van where they found drugs and drug paraphernalia. Ayers is being charged for driving with a suspended license, failure to stop for police, motor vehicle trespass, multiple traffic offenses and multiple drug-related charges.
