BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- U.S. Senate hopeful Ed Markey released eight years of tax data Friday.

A tax summary released by Markey's campaign lists Markey's income for 2012 as $161,443 at a federal income tax rate of 20.07-percent. His federal and state income tax combined added up to 24.61-percent.

Between 2005 and 2012, the Democratic congressman made just over $1.2 million at an average of just over $150,000 a year. During the eight-year period, Markey paid out over $230,000 in federal income tax and more than $56,000 in state income tax.

Markey's Republican opponent, Gabriel Gomez, has released his tax returns from 2006 to 2011. He received an extension for filing his 2012 taxes.

The Boston Globe says he made $10.1 million over six years as a private equity investor with the company Advent.
A disclosure sheet provided by Gomez's campaign to the paper says his total asset worth is between $11.3 and $47.7 million.
