US Sen. Markey to launch tour of Massachusetts

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) — Senator Edward Markey is launching a tour of Massachusetts as the state's newest member of Congress.

A spokeswoman says Markey hopes to hear from mayors, business owners, and constituents about their ideas for strengthening the economy and creating jobs.

Markey is beginning the tour Tuesday in western and central Massachusetts. Markey's schedule includes a meeting with Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz and a tour of Worcester businesses with U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern and Worcester Mayor Joe Petty.

Markey continues his tour Wednesday with visits to New Bedford and Fall River.

On Thursday, Markey will be in Lowell and ends the day in Boston.

Markey was sworn in last month after winning a special election to fill John Kerry's old Senate seat. Markey served more than three decades representing Massachusetts in the U.S. House.
