• US Rep. Tierney releases 6 years of tax returns

BOSTON (AP) — Congressman John Tierney has released six years of tax returns ahead of the first debate in the state's 6th Congressional District race.

A Tierney spokeswoman says the records show none of the $200,000 federal prosecutors say his wife Patrice received from her brother's illegal gambling business was reported.

Tierney has said the money was a gift and Patrice Tierney's lawyer Donald Stern said she was never charged with anything related to her own finances or income tax.

Patrice Tierney was sentenced to 30 days in prison last year after pleading guilty to helping file false tax returns for her fugitive brother Robert Eremian.

Tierney, a Democrat, is facing off against former Republican state senator Richard Tisei.

The Boston Globe reports Tisei paid no federal income taxes in 2006 or 2008 due to business losses.

Thursday marks the first debate between Tierney and Tisei.
