US Rep. Lynch to hold town hall forum on Syria

BOSTON (AP) - Congressman Stephen Lynch is hosting a town hall forum in South Boston to discuss the situation in Syria.

Lynch says he'll talk about a proposed resolution seeking congressional authorization for the use of military force. The Massachusetts Democrat also says he'll take questions from the public during the forum, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the ironworkers' union hall.

President Barack Obama has asked Congress to give him authority for a limited strike aimed at the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad for their use of chemical weapons. Assad has denied use of the weapons.

Obama has said he would also consider a Russian proposal calling for international control of Assad's chemical weapons and their eventual destruction.

Lynch has said he's opposed to authorizing a military attack against Syria.
