Unsettled weather pattern to continue into Labor Day

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- A stalled out weather boundary, which draped through the region Sunday morning, helped produce a line of heavy rain and storms. These tropical like downpours dropped three to four inches of rain prompting flash flooding and the closing of roadways.

Storm development continues early this afternoon near the Mass. Pike. At this point, it's all about location. To the north of the city, it is sunny with temps in the upper 70s to low 80s. South of the city, there are more clouds and temps are in the 70s.

We are dealing with oppressive humidity with dew points in the low 70s; therefore, the atmosphere is very juiced and any shower or storm that does develop later this afternoon has the potential to produce very heavy rain. As a result, a FLOOD WARNING for southern Middlesex County, southwestern Suffolk county and northern Norfolk county has been put in place until 5 p.m. Any additional showers and storms possible through today and tonight may prompt further flooding.

Unfortunately, this unsettled pattern will continue into our Labor Day. As a cold front inches closer, we'll see another chance of widespread scattered showers and storms again tomorrow. The main threat with any of these storms will be lightning and tropical like downpours that may lead to flash flooding.

It will continue to be warm and humid on Monday. This front will finally swing through on Tuesday with another round of showers and storms. By Wednesday, we will return to drier and brighter weather. The warm and humid conditions from this weekend will be a short memory as back door cold front will introduce fall-like weather late in the week - highs may only be in the 60s to low 70s by Friday!
