UMass names Vermont assistant new hockey coach

AMHERST (AP) - Vermont associate coach John Micheletto has been named the new head coach at Massachusetts.

UMass scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m. Monday.

Micheletto has been at Vermont for 10 years, most recently as director of recruiting. His primary responsibilities included working with the Catamount forwards, power play, video analysis, practice planning, and bench coaching duties. He has also coached at Notre Dame and Union.

He replaces Don "Toot" Cahoon, who led the Minutemen to their only NCAA tournament appearance, but abruptly stepped down last month after 12 years at the school.
