Two Mansfield women swept out to sea while on vacation

MANSFIELD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Two women from Mansfield drowned while on a tropical getaway.

Family of 53-year-old Donna Batta and 54-year-old Gail Binmore say the women died while vacationing in Mexico.

Batta and Binmore went swimming in the ocean at the Grand Park Royal Hotel in Cancun. The Attleboro Sun reports the seas were rough that night and the women were caught in a strong current.

A third woman ran into the hotel to get help, but rescue workers could not revive the women after recovering their bodies.

Batta's husband released a statement on Thursday night reading in-part, "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Donna, a woman who was cherished by all who have known her. We appreciate the outpouring of love from our many friends and the condolences from the community."

The statement went on to say they are saddened by Gail Binmore's death. The family has asked for privacy at this time.
