Two indicted for 2009 death of Somerville man

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two people have been arrested in connection to the death of 24-year-old Christopher Souza, authorities said.

According to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, Michael Barnett and his girlfriend, Kelly Murray, have been indicted for Souza's 2009 death.

For years, the case went without any clues as to who killed Souza inside his Somerville home; however, authorities said FOX 25's news coverage of the case helped generate new leads in the investigation, which lead to the charges.

The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office said Barnett wanted to buy drugs the night of the murder. He allegedly went to Souza's home, stole the victim's XBOX and PlayStation video games, and then strangled him to death with the cords from the game consoles.

After, Barnett allegedly sold the PlayStation for $50 to pay for the drugs.

Murray will be charged for allegedly intimidating a witness into lying to police during the investigation.
