Tufts students accused of trashing hotel

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Tufts students are in big trouble for getting rowdy at a Boston hotel.

About 15 students were treated for excessive drinking at the Westin Copley place hotel during the school's annual winter bash on Feb. 1. Six were taken to area hospitals.

In a letter published by the Tufts Daily, the dean of student affairs says students were throwing up and urinating in the lobby.

Officials say all school events are now under review and students could see major changes in the following months. Students found to have violated the Student Code of Conduct will be subject to disciplinary action.

Statement from Tufts University:

"On February 1, approximately 3,000 of our students attended the annual Winter Bash party, held in Boston. Most of those 3,000 students behaved appropriately. However a small number did not. Approximately 15 were treated onsite for alcohol abuse and six were transported to area hospitals. Others were blatantly rude and disrespectful. This kind of behavior is not unique to our university but it is absolutely unacceptable. Those found to have violated our Student Code of Conduct will be subject to disciplinary consequences ranging from a warning to suspension. Our students and administration are taking a hard look to see what changes we need to make to encourage responsible actions by students and prevent the rude and risky behavior that marred this year's event."
