Truck wheel bounces off police cruiser, strikes car, kills driver in NH

HOOKSETT, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) — A woman died in a crash on I-93 south in Hooksett, N.H. Wednesday after a wheel flew off a tractor trailer.

The crash happened shortly after 8 a.m. near the state liquor store in Hooksett when the wheel assembly, from a truck hauling a modular home, broke free. State police say the wheel hit a northbound police cruiser then bounced back into the southbound lane where it struck another car, causing a crash that killed 40-year-old Kerry Anderson-Baker, of Concord, N.H.

Investigators tell FOX 25 Andersion-Baker was on her way to work at Lawrence General Hospital. Hospital President and CEO Dianne J. Anderson released a statement expressing the staff's grief Wednesday afternoon.

"Kerry Anderson-Baker contributed significantly to Lawrence General Hospital, and especially to our patients, while working as a Project Manager, Patient Care Services with our Chief Nursing Officer," said Anderson. "Kerry played an integral role in many of the recent patient care improvements across our campus.  All of us at Lawrence General are heartbroken for the loss of a valued colleague and friend, and our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, her children and her family at this difficult time."

The truck driver, identified as 51-year-old Allen Condon, of Oakfield, ME, didn't stop after passing through the Hooksett tolls. Investigators say Condon may not have known the wheel broke loose or the extent of the damage it caused. Police located Condon's truck in Maine.

State police are working with the Merrimack County Attorney's Office to determine if any criminal charges should be field.

The state trooper whose car was hit was not injured.
