Troopers seize $52,000 found inside shoe box during traffic stop

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A traffic stop on Interstate-84 in Sturbridge led to the seizure of $52,000 by Mass. State Police troopers who suspected the cash was profits from drug sales.

Troopers stopped a Dodge Caravan with a failed inspection sticker and defective brake light on Interstate 84 near the Massachusetts Turnpike at about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Troopers searched the vehicle with consent and found $52,000 in cash bundled inside a shoe box.

Following a conversation with the minivan's occupants, troopers suspected the cash came from narcotic activity and seized the money. It will be held until the occupants can provide proof of lawful ownership.

The driver of the minivan was cited for motor vehicle violations.
