Trial in 43-year-old Mass. slaying gets started

WOBURN (AP) - A prosecutor says a New Hampshire man on trial for a1969 killing threatened to kill two other teenagers who participated.

Prosecutor Tom O'Reilly gave his opening statement Tuesday in the murdertrial of 58-year-old Michael Ferreira of Salem, N.H. O'Reilly said Ferreira andtwo others kidnapped 15-year-old John McCabe of Tewksbury after a dance toteach him a lesson for flirting with a girl. McCabe died of asphyxiation afterbeing bound, gagged and left in a Lowell field.

Defense attorney Eric Wilson said the co-defendant and prosecution witnesswho told police about the killing in 2011 is a liar whose story doesn't matchthe evidence. Sixty-year-old Edward Allen Brown of Londonderry, N.H., toldpolice he, Ferreira and 61-year-old Walter Shelley took part in McCabe's death.

Ferreira and Shelley are charged with murder. Brown is charged withmanslaughter.
