The dog was one of two found in the car after a concerned citizen called 911 just before 3 p.m. Sunday, Roswell police said.

“You did the right thing in calling,” the officer wearing the bodycam tells the person who called authorities. “Believe me, you have my commitment. We’re going to take care of it.”

Authorities checked the temperature inside the car where the dogs were trapped and determined it was as high as 167 degrees.

Police said one barking dog was aggressive due to heat and fear, and officials had to use an animal catch pole to get the dog out of the vehicle. Shortly after being taken out of the car, the dog had a heat stroke seizure, police said.

“A second dog had crawled under the front seat to escape the direct sunlight,” according to authorities. “She came out to protect the dog being removed with the animal catch pole.

Firefighters tended to the dogs, giving them water and helping them to cool off, police said.

The owner of the dogs was located after a page went out at a nearby movie theater, police said. In the video released by authorities the owner, who was not identified, could be heard telling police that she hadn’t been out to check on the dogs since leaving them about an hour earlier.

The owner was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and the dogs were seized by Fulton County Animal Control as “evidence,” police said.
