Family offered free Rice Krispies after finding dead bat in a box of cereal

GLASGOW, Scotland — Snap. Crackle. Dead bat?

A Scottish teenager found the dead animal in a box of Rice Krispies, according to The Daily Record.

"I screamed the house down when I saw the bat," Sehr Rafique, 17, told the Daily Record. "I am scared of spiders as it is, so this terrified me. I have never seen a bat up close, never mind one which I almost ate."

Rafique found the decomposing bat lodged between the box and the inner bag of cereal.

There are "loads of boxes" in the cupboard that will never get eaten.

Rafique's father contacted Kellogg's, which is taking the matter seriously.

"Kellogg's adheres to very strict food safety rules that ensure our products are of the highest quality," a company spokesman told The Daily Record.

The company sent the family coupons for more cereal.

"It's a bit of an insult to be offered another box of cereal when the complaint is about a box of cereal," Rafique told The Daily Record.
