Drunken man arrested after driving himself to jail, deputies say

GENESEO, NEW YORK — Authorities arrested a New York man Sunday after sheriff's deputies said he drove himself to jail while he was drunk.

Rex Crooks, 52, told Livingston County deputies he was at the jail to get a family member who was incarcerated and scheduled to be released, but he arrived a day early. After speaking with him, deputies gave him a breathalyzer and found his blood alcohol content was more than four times the legal limit.

He was charged with aggravated DWI and issued a parking citation for taking a handicapped spot, The Livingston County News reported.

Crooks has a history of drunk driving.  He was pulled over for speeding on Oct. 2 while driving his son to the same jail, The Democrat & Chronicle reported. Authorities arrested him on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after finding that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
