The Canadian woman who received an eyeball tattoo that left her nearly blind is now considering eye removal surgery.

Caitlin Gallinger, 24, revealed the news on Facebook a few days ago, writing, “My hope is gone. I'm very close to asking for removal.”

In September, Gallinger, who works as a model, took to social media to share what happened when she attempted to tint the white of her eye, or sclera, purple.

According to her Facebook post, the tattoo artist did not dilute the ink and used too much of it, which brought on an infection.

She claims she properly followed postcare instructions but felt intense pain shortly after her appointment. Her eye also began leaking purple ink.

After rushing to the hospital, she was prescribed antibiotic eye drops for about a week, but things worsened and her eye had swollen completely shut. Apparently, the medicine spread the infection, causing a clump around her cornea, and doctors discovered she had significant sclera damage.

While she began seeing a specialist to lower her risk of going completely blind, she’s now thinking about removing her eye.

“Since I've always been honest on here, I will continue to be. This is beyond heartbreaking. I CANNOT open it at all without significant effort,” she said. “I’m so tired of it all.”

Although she hasn’t made a final decision on the surgery, she continues to advise others about the dangers.

“I am NOT sharing this with you to cause trouble, I am sharing this to warn you to research who you get your procedures by as well as how the procedure should be properly done,” she once wrote. “Just please be cautious who you get your mods from and do your research. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.”
