Accused hot dog stand robber shoots himself while escaping

A man accused of robbing a Chicago hot dog stand accidentally shot himself in the leg and groin as he tried to escape Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Terrion Pouncy, 19, remained hospitalized and was unable to attend his bond hearing Thursday, according to court records.

Judge Stephanie Miller ordered him held without bail, pending a hearing Tuesday, according to court records.

Police were called to the hot dog stand at 6 a.m. Tuesday and found Pouncy suffering from gunshot wounds to his right thigh and groin area.

At about the same time, two employees of the hot dog stand called 911 to report that the restaurant — open 24 hours, according to its website — had been robbed, according to the report.

A man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a “dark scarf concealing his face” robbed the shop using a small-caliber pistol, according to the report.

The theft was caught on video, according to the arrest report.

When officers arrived, the two employees told them that as Pouncy ran from the restaurant, he tried to put the gun in his pants and the it went off, shooting him in the groin, according to the report.

Youncy faces two counts of armed robbery with a firearm, with one of the employees listed as the victim in each of the separate counts.
