AYER, Mass. — A train spilled 2,500 gallons of fuel in Ayer Sunday night.
The locomotive hit something in the railyard while it was leaving, causing a fuel tank to rupture. About 2,400 gallons of diesel fuel spilled out.

The DEP has responded to the area. The spill is in a protected zoned area due to t being near the Grove Pond Well. However, DEP does not believe that any surface water or well water has been impacted. They are monitoring the situation to make sure.
PanAM Railways is responsible for the cleanup, and have called in a cleaning crew to deal with the spill.
