Train carrying flammable cleaning material derails in Westford

WESTFORD, Mass. — Clean up work will begin Wednesday morning after a freight train derailed in Westford Tuesday night.

This was the scene Tuesday night near Broadway:

According to the Lowell Sun, the six cars that went off the tracks were carrying a flammable cleaning material.

Town officials originally sent out a warning to residents saying that there may have to be an evacuation near the site. Once crews confirmed there was no sign of a leak, everyone was told they could stay home.

The train company, Pan Am Railways, said they plan to get the cars back on the track Wednesday once it's light outside.

The derailment happened about a quarter mile away from the one that happened two years ago.
