Tornado Warning issued for parts of Franklin, Worcester counties

A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 6:45 p.m. Wednesday for central Franklin County and northern Worcester County in Massachusetts, reports the National Weather Service.

At about 5:56 p.m., Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado in that area. The dangerous storm was located near New Salem or 11 miles northeast of Amherst moving east at 30 mph.

Shutesbury, Leverett, New Salem, Sunderland, Whately, Montague, Hubbardston, Petersham, and Westminster could be impacted.

As of 5:50 p.m., the NWS said they had not received confirmation of a tornado touchdown; however, it could happen at any time.

Officials ask those in the impacted areas to move to a basement or an interior room and avoid windows.
