Toddler flown to hospital after campfire accident in Brewster

BREWSTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A two-year-old child was flown to the hospital Thursday after being badly burned by the remnants of a campfire in Brewster.

Emergency crews say the toddler was at Nickerson State Campground when the incident occurred. The boy sustained serious second- and third-degree burns to both hands and his left arm.

The child was transported to Barnstable Municipal Airport and was then flown to Mass. General Hospital for further treatment.

Investigators say the child was with a family from Concord, N.H. that had just arrived at the park and was in the process of setting up their camp site when he fell into a fire pit that contained hot embers from a previous fire.
