Tires stolen off wounded vet's car in Dorchester

DORCHESTER, Mass. — The Dorchester community is fuming after someone stole all four tires off of a disabled Marine veteran’s car.

“Just no respect. There's not respect and that's totally horrible,” said Tom Flaherty.

Tom Sullivan, the veteran, showed us the damage to his car – all four tires were stolen and the car was left teetering on cement blocks. His neighbors are just as disgusted as he is.

"It's outrageous someone could do something - that some nut case could do something like that,” said Flaherty, Sullivan’s neighbor.

Sullivan served in the U.S. Marines for nine years and then worked as a nurse for close to 40 years in Boston.

"It's hard being deprived of your car. How do you get this down with no tires? It's on blocks,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan’s car is a Toyota Venza and Boston police say that likely made it a target because it comes standard with 20-inch tires and they are very expensive.

The neighborhood is already working to figure out what they can do to help -- even trying to pitch in to pay his insurance deductible.

"Nothing surprises me anymore with what criminals will do,” said neighbor Mark Wilson.

Boston police are looking into what happened and some residents said there was as suspicious white van in the area recently.
