PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A time-lapse video shows a tanker breaking free from its moorings on Sunday and drifting into the bridge.
The clip, courtesy of Michael McCormack at portsmouthwebcam.com, captured the moment a 473-foot Harbour Feature slammed into the bridge that connects Portsmouth, N.H. to Kittery, Maine.
Coast Guard officials said the tanker was tied to a nearby pier, but broke loose and was pushed into the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge by the current.
Officials say it will be closed for at least two to four weeks while workers make emergency repairs.
