Tick spraying a popular way to fend off disease-carrying critters

LEXINGTON, Mass. — Ticks are everywhere this season, and that means the risk for diseases like Lyme and the potentially fatal Powassan virus are higher than ever.

With warnings from doctors and schools, many people are taking extra steps to prevent ticks from taking over their yards.

"We've been here for nine years and in the last two weeks I've pulled five ticks off my kids. So I just panicked,” Kelly Scobbo from Medfield said.

With the threat of Lyme disease and the Powassan virus, people in the tick business say spraying is a good way to keep the pesky critters at bay.

"The best way to prevent the risks of tick threats is through routine spray applications. Remember one adult deer tick can lay upwards of 2,000 eggs so preventative action must be taken,” Trevor Nelson, the owner of Pure Solutions said.

After just one treatment, Scobbo said she feels better about her yard.

"I haven't noticed anything since I did it Wednesday,” she said.
