Three more suspects arrested in disabled person beating

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Police have arrested three more suspects reportedly involved in the brutal beating of a disabled man that occurred on the Downtown Crossing MBTA platform early Monday morning.

Transit Police detectives took 29-year-old Maryanne Hamilton, of Jamaica Plain, into custody on Tuesday for assault and battery on a disabled person and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charges.

Hamilton was observed by Transit Police detectives in the hallway at Boston Municipal Court after her two co-defendants, Bryon Lashus and Karen Akiba, were arraigned for the assault.  She will be arraigned on Wednesday.

Germial Johnson turned himself in to Transit Police in Dorchester on Wednesday, and Transit Police arrested 23-year-old Ivan Bacai, of Malden, on Wednesday night.

According to police, the four suspects repeatedly punched and kicked a 40-year-old disabled male on the Orange Line southbound platform around 12:37 a.m. on Monday.  The male suffered lacerations and bruises to his face and torso areas.

Police say the victim, who has a limited ability to communicate, was attacked after he overheard a conversation the suspects were having and told them they ought not to use the word "hate."

Lashus and Akiba pled not guilty on Tuesday and are expected back in court on September 25, 2012. 

The investigation is ongoing.
