Three charged in 2007 fatal hit-and-run

Three people have been charged in connection with a 2007 hit-and-run crash in Saugus.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said Michael Tranchita, Jr., of Winchester, was charged with leaving the scene of a death, conspiracy and two counts of misleading a potential witness in connection with the incident.

Michael Tranchita, Sr., also of Winchester, was charged with conspiracy, misleading a potential witness and misleading an investigator. Lisa Cutting, of Revere, was charged with conspiracy, misleading an investigator and accessory after the fact.

Police said on Jan. 5, 2007 at about 11:35 p.m. Tina Tello, 33, of Stoneham, and Christopher Zullo, 28, of Everett, were attempting to cross Route 1 South in Saugus when they were struck by a vehicle.

Tello was pronounced dead at the scene and Zullo died two days later. Police said the area of the road they were trying to cross was not designed for pedestrian travel.

All three suspects turned themselves in to police Monday. A court date has not been set.
