Thousands show support for MDSC at annual event

WAKEFIELD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Thousands of people joined together at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield on Sunday for a good cause.

Cloudy skies weren't enough to scare away the massive group of people showing their support for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress at their annual Buddy Walk and Family Picnic.

The event raised approximately $368,000, and the donations are still being counted.

The event even included some celebrities. Lauren Potter, who plays Becky Jackson on FOX's hit show Glee, flew in from Los Angeles to be at the event.

Local musician James Massone, who is known for competing on the music competition "The Voice," was also in attendance.

The Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress Buddy Walk & Family Picnic has been held every October since 1996 in honor of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

FOX 25 is proud to support the annual event.
