Thornton fined after Saturday night's Bruins game

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton was fined Sunday after spraying a Montreal Canadiens player with water during Saturday night's game.

In the final seconds of the Bruins' 4 - 2 win over the Habs, Thornton sprayed P.K. Subban as he skated by the Bruins' bench with water from his water bottle. After the whistle, Subban went over to the referee to ask for a penalty.

No penalty was assessed on the play, but the NHL announced Sunday morning that Thornton would be fined $2,820.52 for unsportsmanlike conduct. That amount is the maximum allowed under the player's union bargaining agreement.

The Bruins lead the series 3 - 2 and will play in Montreal Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
