This wearable tech is designed to keep you the perfect temperature

BOSTON — They say of New England weather, if you don't like it, just wait a moment and it'll change. Turns out you don't have to wait. A local company wants to make you instantly warmer or cooler at the touch of a button.

If you're the kind of person who can't shake the chill of an October morning, Embr Labs Co-Founder David Cohen-Tanugi gets you.

"We were always cold in the lab," said Cohen-Tanugi.

Cohen-Tanugi and his partners were students at MIT when a chill sparked an idea.

"We thought, wouldn't it be more efficient to either cool or heat a person directly, rather than all the air around us," said Cohen-Tanugi.

Four years later, they're doing just that.

"This is Embr Wave. You wear it on your wrist, either on the top or the bottom of your wrist and anytime I start feeling cold, for example, I can start warming instantly," said Cohen-Tanugi.

Sort of like a watch that's always set to comfort, Cohen-Tanugi says the device is not as cold as and ice cube and gets no warmer than the temperature of a hot tub. It won't replace your jacket or air conditioning, but the range is just enough to keep you comfortable, and he says that's exactly what people are after.

"We started getting hundreds and hundreds of emails from all over the world, actually, who were telling us I am perpetually freezing, or I'm perpetually too hot and it's embarrassing and it's frustrating and I hate it," said Cohen-Tanugi.

He says there's a gap in the wearable technology market and Embr Wave looks to fill it, while pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

"At this stage, I get much more excited about something that makes me feel comfortable than having something that, say, counts my steps," said Cohen-Tanugi.

Embr Wave just launched on KickStarter, which is where you can pre-order the device. It will eventually retail for $299, but there's a significant discount for those who buy in early.
