‘This was not an accident': Body found in NH house explosion

SALEM, NH — A body was discovered inside a home that exploded Monday night, fire officials said in a news conference Tuesday.

Salem, New Hampshire residents were forced from their homes after the explosion, which happened at a home that has been condemned since 2015. The home's roof blew off and fire tore through the property.

"The fire does not look like an accident," Captain Joel Dolan said in a news conference Tuesday.

Investigators searched the property Tuesday and discovered a body in the basement. The victim's identity was not immediately released.

Police said Tuesday that the homeowner of the house involved is Charles Hill, whose vehicle was in the driveway at the time of the explosion. Police have not been able contact Hill since the explosion. Hill is estranged from his family.
