Third week of 'Baby Doe' trial begins Monday

BOSTON — The third week of the Bella Bond trial starts Monday, with likely another two full weeks of testimony left.

The prosecution said they still have to call Jay Woodhead, from the U.S. Coast Guard, five crime scene DNA witnesses, three to four state troopers and a cell site location mapping expert.

Michael McCarthy is on trial for toddler Bella Bond, whose body was found on Deer Island two years ago. McCarthy was dating Bella's mother, Rachelle Bond, at the time of the child's death. He allegedly tried to beat the demons out of her while high on drugs. They later dumped her body in the Boston Harbor.

On Friday, Joe Amoroso, Bella's biological father, testified about the day he found out Bella was dead. The medical examiner also testified, saying due to the decomposition level of Bella's body, he was unable to pinpoint the exact cause of death.
