Third Boston police officer's personal vehicle tampered with

BOSTON — For the third time in a month, a police officer's personal vehicle has been tampered with in Boston.

The most recent incident happened Wednesday at the A-7 Precinct in East Boston when two lug nuts were removed from a vehicle and a third loosened.

A picture obtained by FOX25 shows the tire with missing lug nuts.

The officer was driving home after her shift when she noticed the steering wheel start to shake, causing her to have trouble driving.

"She observed that two (2) of her lug nuts were gone and one (1) was loosened,” an email obtained by FOX25 said.

Last month an officer lost his tire driving home from District A-1 in Downtown Boston, and last week a transit officer lost his tire driving home from a BPD parking lot in Dorchester.

Mechanics later verified that lug nuts on these two vehicles had been intentionally loosened,

"We've got to find out who is doing this. That's a dangerous thing to do,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh told FOX25.

The problem is concerning enough that the Boston Police Department sent a warning that officers “should inspect the wheels and lug nuts on their cruisers and personal vehicles before operating."

Walsh told FOX25 when police find the person responsible they will hold them fully accountable.

"Our officer's don't deserve that, going to their car and worrying about lug nuts being released,” he said.
