Tense standoff ends peacefully in Haverhill

HAVERHILL, Mass. — A standoff situation ended peacefully in Haverhill after state and local police were called to Highland Avenue to investigate reports of a barricaded subject.

The incident began just after 9 p.m. Thursday and lasted for hours.

Initial reports indicated she was armed and may have fired shots at police, which is what prompted such a large presence of law enforcement.

A regional SWAT team was called in, along with Massachusetts State Police who brought in dogs and the Air Wing.

Police were eventually able to make contact with the woman, and Haverhill police posted an update just before midnight that the situation ended peacefully.

Boston 25 News was told the unidentified woman was taken from the scene in an ambulance, but it’s unclear if she will face charges.

No other information was immediately available.
