Teenager hit, killed by commuter rail train

ASHLAND, Mass. — A commuter rail train hit and killed a 16-year-old boy in Ashland late Monday night, MBTA Transit Police said.

Police said they were alerted that someone had been hit by a train just before 10:30 p.m., and multiple police units along with Ashland fire and EMS responded to the scene.

Preliminary information showed that an unidentified 16-year-old, who police said was trespassing on the tracks in the area of the Fountain Street Overpass, was hit by an inbound Worcester Line train.

The teen was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Trains were stopped in both directions as police investigated the incident. Officials said passengers on an outbound train, which was stopped near Framingham, were eventually put onto shuttle buses to make their way on to Worcester.

Transit police, along with the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, are investigating the incident.
