Michael Ricci was picked up by police at his Burlington home on Tuesday evening just hours after the public received the heartbreaking news that Remigio died.

The arrest, police said, was on a charge unrelated to the crash.

Police say Ricci was racing other vehicles in his Mercedes Benz on I-95 in North Hampton, New Hampshire, Sunday, when he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into Remigio, who was riding his motorcycle.

Remigio was taken to a hospital in New Hampshire and died the next day.

“We’ll never fill the void of Officer Remigio,” Somerville police Chief David Fallon said.

Remigio’s body was escorted back to Massachusetts on Tuesday. Friends and strangers stood on overpasses and lined the streets to pay tribute to the fallen officer.

Ricci will appear in Lowell Juvenile Court on Wednesday.
