Teen arrested in shooting of 11-year-old Mass. girl

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Springfield police say they have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of an 11-year-old girl standing in line outside a store selling the latest Nike Air Jordan sneakers.

Police say 19-year-old Kenny Bynum, himself the victim of a shooting last weekend, was arrested Tuesday at the hospital in connection with the March 16 shooting of the girl.

He faces various charges, including assault with intent to murder. His arraignment has not been scheduled.

Police say the girl was in line for the sneakers before opening time when some young men trying to cut to the front sparked a violent confrontation. The girl was shot accidentally.

She was hit in the leg and taken to the hospital, but survived.

Three men have been arrested in connection with Bynum's shooting.
