Teen arrested at underage drinking party makes plea for bail money on Facebook

BEVERLY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- When his one phone call rendered no help, a teenager arrested at an underage drinking party turned to social media to get bailed out of jail.

The Newburyport Daily News reports 19-year-old David White was one of several people arrested at a party in Beverly over the weekend. White, who was charged with disturbing the peace, asked police for permission to use Facebook to ask for bail money when no one answered his phone calls.

Beverly police tell the newspaper White is an example of a growing issue among the younger generation. Teens and young adults who grew up in the age of cell phones have a hard time remembering phone numbers they typically dial with the click of a button.

"One of this weekends arrestees was unable to reach anyone by phone for bail money after several unanswered calls," Beverly police explained on Facebook. "They requested in desperation to be allowed to post their need for bail money to their Facebook page. We are now officially in a new world."

Police say more than 100 people attended the Saturday night party at a home on Juniper Valley Court. The homeowners, 42-year-old Ronnie Alford and 43-year-old Kimberly Alford, are expected to be summonsed under the social host law. Ronnie was held on charges of having a noisy and disorderly house and procuring alcohol for minors.

Briana Doody, 20, of Manchester, was also charged with drunken driving in connection to the party. Others in attendance were charged on underage drinking charges.
