CHELSEA, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Taxi drivers from Chelsea are on high alert following a rash of armed robberies that occurred in Chelsea, East Boston, Winthrop, and another suspected in Revere last week.
Police tell FOX 25 that at least four taxi cab drivers, all from Chelsea, were robbed and threatened with either a gun or a knife.
According to police, the suspect or suspects flag the taxi down, and then when the driver stops, the robbery occurs.
Most of the drivers who have been reportedly robbed work for Ventura Taxi based in Chelsea.
Chelsea does not require its taxis to have glass partitions; however, in light of the robberies, Jose Ventura has installed barriers in each of his taxis.
Police are stepping up patrols during the late night and early morning hours.
No arrests have been made.
