Taste of spring: Record warm temps expected for second day

BOSTON — We’re expected to hit temperatures well into the 70s Wednesday, which is perfect timing for children on school vacation this week.

Boston is hosting its annual winter festival on Boston Common, and the festivities kick-off Wednesday.

All of the events surrounding the festival center around a winter theme, but the warm temperatures spell good news for organizers who have outdoor events planned.

Frog Pond will have ice skating and rentals until Friday. It's free and first-come, first-served starting at 10 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.

City officials will also be setting up a 45-foot long toboggan tunnel slide, a 30-foot high inflatable Everest climb, a snow maze and a lot of games for families.

Boston and Worcester exceeded their respective daily temperatures on Tuesday. Boston hit 70 Tuesday afternoon, breaking the prior record of 68 degrees that was set in 1930.

Worcester reached 67 degrees, which topped its previous record of 65 degrees.

Wednesday is another day of sunshine and record warmth before temperatures plunge and snow moves into the area Thursday.
