SUV strikes three pedestrians in Waltham

WALTHAM, Mass. — Surveillance cameras caught the terrifying moment an SUV hit three pedestrians in Waltham early on Saturday.

Amazingly, police believe that all three of the victims will survive.

Giordano DePena owns the barber shop on Moody Street where his surveillance cameras caught the incident on video.

"I was cutting hair and all I heard was 'boom!' I come out to look and the car was all over the people," DePena said.

The driver, a 60-year-old woman, was not injured. At this point, no charges have been filed against her.

"She parked there and went in that store and then she came out she drove forward a little bit and I don't know how she came back," DePena said.

In the footage, a woman and a man can be seen crossing the street when the driver of the SUV suddenly accelerated backwards, hitting both of them as well as another man who was walking on the sidewalk.

Two of the victims were stuck underneath the SUV when the vehicle accelerated again, this time moving forward. One victim was still pinned underneath the car.

The victims struck by the car were a 22-year-old man, a 59-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman.

Police and paramedics arrived shortly after and transported all three victims to the Newton Wellesley hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All three of them are expected to recover.

"When I looked at the video, I was like 'whoa that was bad' but it didn't look bad when I came out but when I looked at the video I thought it would have been worse," DePena said.
