MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) - Police in southeastern Massachusetts are seeking the public's help in identifying an SUV driver wanted in the hit-and-run death of a 58-year-old man.
Authorities say Michael Dutra was struck at about 7 p.m. Friday as he was riding or walking his bike along Wood Street in his hometown of Middleborough. Police are looking for a light-colored SUV that may have front-end damage and its driver.
Dutra's daughter, Michelle Dutra, told FOX 25 that her father had a liver transplant in 1991 and nearly died last year from complications, but regained his health.
"His experience having the transplant inspired him to go back to school and help become a nurse to help people in the same kind of situation he was in," said Michelle Dutra.
Since the transplant Dutra had devoted his life to helping others, leaving construction to become a practical nurse working with Alzheimers patients.
Dutra said her father was on a trip to a store to buy food when he was killed.
"Accidents happen. I get it. This wasn't intentional. But that's our dad. Now we don't have him," said Dutra.
