Suspect was throwing money out the window during wild police chase

BOURNE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A wild 20-mile car chase on the Cape and South Shore ended in the parking lot of Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

William Byrd, Jr., was arrested. The 34-year-old Buzzards Bay man is currently at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility and will be arraigned Thursday in Falmouth District Court.

Police said it all started at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Bourne with what should have just been a routine motor vehicle traffic stop. However, there was a warrant out for Byrd's arrest on charges of distributing a Class A substance, heroin.

Police said Byrd did not pull over, but instead lead officers on a chase through Bourne, Wareham and Plymouth.

The suspect avoided two stop sticks before coming to a halt on a third one, according to the Wareham Village Soup newspaper, which also reported there was an emergency broadcast report saying Byrd was throwing cash from his vehicle. Bourne police were not able to confirm that Thursday morning.
